President Chuck Vogel opened the meeting at 12:35 pm

Guest speaker Cornel Jefferson led in the pledge of allegiance.
Dick Holt introduced 35 year Rotarian – Bob Underwood

Bob Shusta introduced his wife and guest speak cornel Jefferson the infamous Tuskegee airman of WW11

President Chuck Vogul reminded members of District meeting Nov. 2-12.  Don’t forget to bring your toga’s Reggio announced that 4 of 5 city council canidates will be attending our Rotary mtg. next week.  Format is not completely known Bob Shusta reminded members about Oct 26-12 Octoberfest at Norma’s place.

Bob Aguilar reminded everyone that will be attending the wine tour on October 17/12,  to make sure their payment is submitted.

Dick Holt announced free senior symposium to take place soon at LOPC.

Anna fined Larry Duson $5.

Bob Shusta introduced Col. Alexander Jefferson as our keynote speaker Col Alexander shared his experience as a Tuskegee airman during WW11 and the many obstacles he had to overcome as being a Black man.  As a pilot during WW!! He was shot down in Germany and luckily survived the shooting down of his plane bailing out and captured by the German SS and held prisoner for 5 months.  Col. Jefferson gave a very insightful and intriguing presentation of his life and experiences.

Mike Heller won the $2 raffle draw and Mark Cramner tried for the $65 draw.

Rotary commits additional US$75 million to help end polio

 Rotary News -- 27 September 2012  
RI General Secretary John Hewko, International PolioPlus Committee Vice Chair John Germ, Canadian Rotarian and polio survivor Ramesh Ferris, and Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Wilfrid Wilkinson at the UN event on polio eradication. Wilkinson is holding the petitions signed by visitors to Rotary's polio advocacy website.

Rotary International has made a new funding commitment of US$75 million over three years to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). Rotary, which has already contributed nearly $1.2 billion to the GPEI, announced the commitment at a 27 September high-level side event on polio eradication, convened by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
