Official Weekly Bulletin of the Rotary Club of Lafayette, CA
February 14, 2013 | VOL 67 | ISSUE 28

President Chuck Vogel opened the meeting today. John Sherry was the greeter and gave the thought for the day.
Joining us for today’s meeting was visiting Rotarian Dr Ron Light. Also joining us were many Rotarians' better halves for Valentine's day: Iris Ring, Denisa Feddersen, Lynn Zimmerman, Artie Sherry, Midge Shusta, Sharon Wake, Jacquie Courtright, Robin Holt, Betty Stokes, Mary Vogel and Victoria Bauer. Also joining us was prospective member Dawn Capp and the GM of the Lafayette park Hotel Nick Bozych.

Chuck announced Moraga Rotary Club's Night at the Races March 16. Mo announced the Generations in Jazz evening: It's a Wonderful World on March 8th featuring people who have changed our life and our culture in Lafayette. Chuck announced our newest member Harold Bauer has passed the 7-day test and Harold was awarded his red badge. John Sherry presented Derek with his official Rotary shirt and rain slicker. Chuck announced that Bob Aguilar is convalescing at Manor Care (the one where Del Valle school used to be) Bob is in room 304B by the window. Chuck presented Buddy B with his "official" Blue Badge.

Fines and recognition:
Fines were abandoned for a special Valentine's day couples quiz patterned on "The Newlywed Game" that quickly deteriorated into essentially a "free for all" event reminiscent of the movie "Animal House" but felt like twice as long and without the food fight. Troy and Denisa Feddersen and Geoff and Lynn Zimmerman were the last couples standing, and after two tiebreaker rounds, the two couples were declared co-winners of the event. Both received lovely parting gifts.

There were many donated items what were auctioned off. An overnight stay at the Lafayette Park was won by Mo. Norma was the winning bidder on a floral arrangement form Orchard Nursery. John Sherry was the winning bidder on some truffles. Larry B won the "happy camper Cabernet".

Today’s raffle was for $35. Troy won $2. Geoff won $5.

Thousands of participants around the world plan to swim 100 meters or more on 23 February in a global swimming event that is just one of many activities celebrating Rotary’s 108th anniversary.

The global event is being organized by the Rotary Club of Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, which has held an annual swim fundraiser to support local charities since 1990. Participants swim laps in a pool to earn pledged money during the “swimarathons.”
