Official Weekly Bulletin of the Rotary Club of Lafayette, CA
September 11, 2014 | VOL 69 | ISSUE 11

On this auspicious 13th anniversary of "9/11", we enter into a proclaimed fight against "ISIL", "ISIS", and any other terrorists with the U.S. In their sights. And on that note, El Capitaine Gregg Vaisnor opened the meeting(love that bell!!!)

Peggy Harbarth was greeter and led us in the pledge and a moment of silence for the victims of 9/11.

Guests: Troy intro'd Norma Bishop from Lindsay Wildlife Museum Jay intro'd Beverlee Hajek for her 4 th lunch soon to be a member and Shirley Mcelhattan from Always Best Care Senior Services Bob Shusta intro'd Gustavo from Brazil.

Annc'ed : Ron Wake reminded us to contribute to the Rotary Foundation $100 is the required yearly amount.
Alicia was annc'ed as late for this date, as she arrived tardy.

Gregg awarded a BIG check to Norma Bishop for Lindsay Wildlife Museum. She spoke of the museum as being one of the largest most active in the nation. It's a beautiful place more than worth a visit, Kevin( one of the few who has yet to see it)

Jay Lifson recognized the sponsors, ironman group, and volunteers of the Laf. Art and Wine Festival coming to a town near you, very near you actually. So come Sept 20-21, be there or be square. The music and wine and artists booths are fantastic!

Larry Blodgett spoke of the Lamorinda Film Festival.

Happy Dollars and Fines: Bill Eames accosted Bob Shusta for his lack of knowledge of the Cal colors, to which he protested loudly.
Tom Henry mentioned his date with the surgeon for his right shoulder. He also auctioned off two tickets to the Oakland lecture series, that yielded $25, a real bargain.
Mo was fined for his medical difficulties while visiting Macchu Pichu. The altitude and tough trail provided major challenges and he paid dearly for it!
Norma gave happy dollars for her visit to a CAL game with Gustavo. They all had a rowdy time according to Norma.
Bob Aguilar paid $56 for his wedding anniversary, but failed to say whether or not they were happy!

Speaker: Gustavo Carvalho, Rotary Youth Exchange Student, visiting our area this year. A well spoken Brazilian high school student, he gave us a short history of Brazil and a quick tour of the main cities, areas of the country, and where he lives in São Paulo, in the city of Paraguacu Paulista. He is staying with Bob and Midge Shusta this month and he thanks both Rotary Clubs of Lafayette for sponsoring him. This year he's taking classes at Acalanes in drama and theatre, which are his main interests. He learned his excellent command of English in classes in Brazil and by watching American films.

Rotaractors provide access to fresh vegetables in France

Imagine a community where the residents are all free to plant, grow, harvest, and eat healthy food whenever they want without having to pay for it. That’s exactly what residents of more than 20 cities and towns in France are doing through a project called Potalib, launched by the Rotaract Club of Versailles. It’s just one example of how Rotary’s programs for young people develop leaders.

The Four Way Test
Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
